Colca canyon is located in the middle of two highest volcanoes Coropuna (6450m) and Ampato (6380m), this canyon is most famous place to visit by the tourist from everywhere in world, wonderful area to see the rich cultural remains, comes from 1400 years ago, immense varieties of flora and fauna, snow ranges, green valleys, old and colony town, mighty rivers crossing the Andes, thousand of pre Inca terraces, friendly and charm settlers live in this part of Peru. Here is our field work arranging everything what we mentioned before, we are happy showing to the visitors every place and old costumes lazy by our old cultures. COLCA CANYON TREKKING ITINERARY

DAY 1: AREQUIPA - COLCA CANYON - SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO

At 6AM pick-up from hotel in Arequipa, orientation about our trek and journey of 6 hours to Colca Canyon - Cabanaconde village.
At 11AM brief stop at the Condor Cross - Tapay viewpoint (3600 meters above sea level). Lunch at Cabanaconde (3280m), located in the left rim of the Canyon. Start trekking in the Colca Canyon descending 4 hours to the Colca River (2160m), a difference of 1200 meters. We will cross to the other side of the Canyon and ascend to our family cabins or camping place.
16AM arrival to the lodge and short walk to the San Juan de Chuccho village (2300m). Get together with the children and locals from this valley, participation in agricultural and other activities. Campfire, dinner and family lodge. Lunch + Dinner and Family Lodge or Camping.

DAY 2: SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO - LLATICA CANYON - FURE VILLAGE

7AM continental country breakfast and begin long ascent to our next village called Tapay (3000m). Visit Cosñirhua and Malata (2600m) its church of mixed racial ancestry, sights of the local landscape, very old terraces, snow-capped summits, varieties of flora and fauna.
After six hours hiking into both canyons (Colca & Llatica) passing small rivers, cactus forest, dry and dirty zones, will arrive to Fure village (3100m), located on the left rim of the Llatica canyon with mighty clean river.
2PM have lunch in our family lodge, located over small hill, supported by pre Incas terraces worked by local villages and the best views of this greenness canyon. Free afternoon for rest, to explorer around or you can exchange languages with curious local kids. Breakfast, lunch, dinners and family lodge. Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner and Family Lodge or Camping.

DAY 3: FURE VILLAGE - WARURO WATERFALL - LLAHUAR LODGE

Before breakfast we will do a short trekking to a nice waterfall of Waruro (80m), is hike is on the right bank of the Llatica river, following small path in the middle of the cactuses, walking over the cliffs and after one hour arrival to the powerful waterfall, completely green and noisy place.
9AM breakfast in our lodge and continuing trekking going down to Llatica village and cross the river by an hanging, short explore to this quite place.
2PM we will arrive to deepest area of the Colca canyon. Llahuar (2100m) is a nice place located between Colca and Llatica rivers, one of the best places to get our lunch with nice view of both canyons. The afternoon is free to enjoy and use the thermals pools (hot spring) around the rivers. Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner and Family Lodge or Camping.

DAY 4: LLAHUAR LODGE - SORO VALLEY - CABANACONDE - CONDOR CROSS VIEWPOINT - CHIVAY - AREQUIPA

BACKPACKER & GROUP SERVICE: Today everyone needs to wake up at 2AM or 3AM according your decision you toke in the night before. Hot drink and begin of the hardest hike of this expedition through the second deepest canyon in the world. The hike will be in the dark following stony path and crossing suspension bridges over two rivers. Nice climbing under starry sky (April - December). The trekking from the bottom of the canyon (2100m) to Cabanaconde town (3280m) takes around 5 or 6 hours with amazing view of the canyon and with possibilities to see some condors on the way up. For this part of the trekking is necessary to bring a headlamp with batteries and walking poles will be very helpful.
Around 8AM you will arrive to the Cabanaconde to have country breakfast and then will be the transfer by public bus to the Condor Croos lookout (30 minutes), there we will wait 2 hours maximum for flight of biggest birds in the world. We continue travelling by public bus on left bank of the canyon to Chivay, all them located on the left margin of the Colca River with nice lookout, colony churches, ouvenir markets, etc.
12PM we will be getting our lunch in good typical restaurant in Chivay town (3600m) and then travel 4 hours back to Arequipa.
5PM arrive to Arequipa and end of the trip. Breakfast + Lunch.

PRIVATE SERVICE: At 5AM will be our breakfast and short trekking on the left bank of the Colca river, nice trekking crossing abandoned terraces completely cover by cactus, this small valley is called Soro (2050m) and then cross a suspension bridge over the Colca River to the other side and meet the 4x4. From Soro we travel up to Cabanaconde (3285m) by abandoned dirty truck that is 1 hour on our four wheel drive.
8am we will be at the famous Condor Cross (3600m), wait 2 hours maximum for flight of biggest birds in the world. We continue travelling by 4x4 visiting different villages like Achoma, Maca, Achoma, Yanque and Chivay, all them located on the left margin of the Colca River with nice lookout, colony churches, souvenir markets, etc.
12PM we will be getting our lunch in good typical restaurant in Chivay town (3600m) and then travel 4 hours back to Arequipa.
5pm arrival to Arequipa and end our experience. Breakfast + Lunch.
Colca Ana Llatica Canyon

BACKPACKER SERVICE INCLUDES ($292 USD Per Person - Up To 12 Participants)

  3. Round trip public bus tickets - The journey includes stops along the way
  4. All meals according the program
  5. Camping gear as 4 season tents and mattresses (Sleeping bag is not include)
  6. Shared bath and cold shower facilities
  7. Tourist ticket of 35 soles or $13 US Dollars per person (Obligatory). This is the unique entrance to the Colca national park even if you don't stop at "Mirador Cruz Del Condor" (take care not many tour operators don't includes this tourist ticket), the entrance is valid to visit all the canyon but not valid for hot springs along the canyon
  8. Water supply (boiled) every day before breakfast and after each dinner
  9. Food and lodging for our camp staff
  10. First aid kit for all participants and our camp staff
NOTE: If we get more than 6 participants for this BACKPACKER SERVICE at the same day Peru Adventure Tours will provide round trip PRIVATE TRANSPORT between Arequipa - Cabanaconde - Arequipa instead public bus. We will notify you a day before depart (meeting day in our office).
If this is possible the depart and return to Arequipa will be more flexible and you will get more time to enjoy other places in the colca valley.
