Paracas, passing through remote villages out of the reach of motorised vehicles, and having the chance to get know local Andean communities and learn their amazing life style.
Mountain Biking is a relatively new sport in
Peru, but new routes are rapidly being opened up, many of which offer excellent opportunities to ride.
For the more adventurous people, we arrange long biking trips. We are best undertaken and an experienced tour operator providing professional guides and bicycle equipment as well as the necessary
supporting 4WD vehicles.
We have cycle trips from 1 up to more days designed to get the most out of your holiday. Beginning in the high Andes and descending into the
Amazon jungle, we cycle from altitudes of 5000m to 600m. Biking on the single tracks, dirt roads, humid lands, frigid and warm climates, camping or spending in the local’s family houses.
COLCA CANYON ADVENTURE TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: AREQUIPA - PAMPAS CAÑAHUAS - CHIVAY/COLCA CANYON
At 7am we pick you up from your hotel and 4 hours by our own 4WD, this travel is between the Misti and Chachani volcanoes up to 4850m where will see Llamas, Alpacas, Andean birds also will appreciate the Vicuñas, this animals living are protected by the national reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas. We'd have a nice blue sky while doing our downhill MT. bike trip, beginning at the highest pass on this trip, named Patapampa (4850m) from here is possible to observe the volcanoes chain and mountain range in the South of Peru, to rice our bicycles on a nice asphalt or taking sigle track on the ancestrail Inca trail, descending 1200m to Chivay town (3600m).
In Chivay we will have lunch and at 1pm continue biking on dirt road on the left bank of the Colca river, crossing between old pre Inca terraces and small villages and visiting colony churches. Finally we will arrive at Maca village (3350m); after 4-5 hours here we will spend the night camping around the Colca river or in a nice family accommodation (L - D).
DAY 2: COLCA CANYON - CRUZ DEL CONDOR LOOKOUT - CABANACONDE - SORO VALLEY - LLHUAR LODGE
At 6am after packing everything, have our energetic breakfast and continue traveling 2 hours and 40 minutes on our own
private 4x4 vehicle, continue on the left bank we will arrive at 8:00 am. to the popular Condor Cross, and stop for about 2 hours to be able to see the condors flights, getting pictures of the small villages in the deepest part of the deepest second canyon in the world. At 10am we will ride down until Cabanaconde (3280m) this short trip biking take one hour and half, short recognition of this Andean town surrounded by green terraces. Full downhill on serpentine dirt road to the Colca River, where is nice abandond valley named Soro (1800m), this is one hour of the most adventurous downhill in the canyon. For experience bikers this downhill offer great oportunities for single tracks until the suspension bridge.
After full adrenaline downhill we let our bikes on the supporting vehicle and short trekking along the canyon to Llahuar lodge (1950m), located on the let bank between the Colca and Llatica River. Acommodation in bamboo rooms running by local family, late afternoon you can enjoy the thermal baths next of the river (B - L - D).
DAY 3: LLAHUAR LODGE - HUAMBO TERRACES - EL PEDREGAL - AREQUIPA
At 5am short trek by the same way of the last day to meet our four wheel drive vehicle, from Soro we drive up to the pass between Cabanaconde and Huambo, this pass have 4100m and from here one hour downhill to Huambo (3000m) and we will see some quite and nice farmers living from the agriculture, spectacular vies of this dry and deepest area of this canyon. Continue travel in
our 4x4 we will reach the highest point (4300m) of this day where is a perfect lookout of Ampato Volcano, driving around this volcano we will in the middle of two small Volcanos of Qerqe plain, where we stop for lunch on the middle of the mountains. From here is the last downhill on dirt road from the highlands to the coast, descending 2800m at 40km. After 3 hours on our bikes we will be in EL PEDREGAL, from here we will take our 4DW and drive into the Panamericana highway to Arequipa. At 7-8 pm enter to Arequipa, directly to your hotel and end service (B - L).

December to March. Some days are with blue sky permiting to cycle this zone.
BEST TIME FOR CYCLE
After rain season (April to June) the mountains are completely covered with snow and the slops are cover with new vegetation making more nice for pictures.
ADVICE FOR BIKERS
Normal physical conditions and summer clothes, bikers require good acclimatization over 2500m. One day before all the bikers will have meeting with the mountain bike guide at our office or in the hotel, who will give a BRIEFING about this bike trip and also you can check the quality of bikes and gear will be used on this trip.
