PERU MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO LIMA - WLECOME TO PERU

At mentioned time reception at the airport of Lima and transfer to the selected hotel, located in Miraflores/Lima - Overnight.

DAY 2: LIMA - PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE

6AM pick-upp from from hotel in Lima and then private transfer for about 3hrs to Peninsula of Paracas in the department of Ica, located a distance of 239 kms/150 miles away from Lima, where we arrive by bus after 3 hours.
9:30AM will be the breakfast and begin our biking tour on trails around the Peninsula towards "La Catedral", rock formation on the sea side, The Sea Lions lookout. After lunch, continue the bike tour on the surroundings experiencing biking on the desert dunes, Julio C. Tello Museum, and Paracas bay. 5PM. Come back to Pisco city, Dinner and stay at the selected hotel (B).

DAY 3: ICA - SAND BOARD AND DUNE BUGGY TOUR - NASCA

6AM. Transfer to the port of El Chaco, located at 10KM away from Pisco, here you will board our boats and travel in the sea to know the natural beauty of these islands. This trip on boat take 3 hours, you will have chance to look Flamingos, Huanays, Piqueros, Humboldt penguins, Sea lions, Zarcillos and same times the Andean Condor.
Transfer to La Huacachina to have lunch there and the Sand Board and Dune Buggy Tour. Cycle on the south region of Ica (Rio Grande - Palpa - San Jose), where exist the lookout tower to appreciate the mysterious lines and figures. Arrival to Nasca and stay at the selected hoteL (B).

DAY 4: NASCA LINES - CAHUACHI ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

the area you can marvel looking at the perfect shape of Animal's, flowers, plants, objects, and anthropomorphic figures of colossal proportions made with well-defined lines.
Lunch and cycle trip to Cahuachi ceremonial complex, located 30km away from Nasca on the west side. Follow a dirt road along desert, arrival to the complex. Guided tour in this enormous archaeological site, climb to the pyramid construction, made with adobe by Nasca civilization. Return to the hotel in Nasca (B).

DAY 5: NASCA - PUERTO INCA - AREQUIPA

After breakfast we will drive for about 30min into the Chauchilla cemetery, where you can see tombs underground with real mummies from the Nasca civilization. Transfer on our private transport to Yauca, recognized like "valley of the olive" from here cycle to Atiquipa and ending in Chala, where we stop for lunch and relaxing time on the beach. Transfer directly to Arequipa passing through valley of Ocoña, Camana, Majes, Vitor and finally arrival to Arequipa, stay at the selected hotel (B).

DAY 6: AREQUIPA - MISTI VOLCANO DONWHILL

Leisure morning for personal activities, we recommend visit the Santa Catalina monastery and ";Juanita ice maiden" museum. At 1PM pick-up from the hotel and drive for about 1HR on asphalt and dirt road up to 3400M, where we will enjoy of amazing view of Pichu Pichu and conical shape of volcan Misti.
2:30PM begin a nice XC ride on a gravel road, passing little villages and viewing different panoramas of active volcanoes with a fun atmosphere and for about 3hrs riding to Arequipa - This ride also offer some OPTIONAL single tracks for intrepid riders.
Today everning the dinner is excluded, but rider will find many option of good places to order local food (B).

DAY 7: AREQUIPA - EL PEDREGAL - HUAMBO - COLCA CANYON

8AM departure to the Colca canyon in our private 4WD, travel to see the rest of the north part of Desierto de Atacama and drive up to the highlands crossing the valley of Vitor, Alto Sihuas, El Pedregal - short explore the remains of Wary culture named Huacan - Visit the south part of the Volcanoes range named Pampa Qerqe - Ampato mountain viewpoint (4300M). From this high point (pass) cycle down on the dirt road or single tracks to enter to Huambo valley (3200M) this is nice downhill with spectacular view of the real Andes and ore Inca terraces on the slopes of the mountains. Huambo located between impressive mountain range, nice and very welcoming town with friendly local people. After 3 hours of cycle we set up our tents out of the town, rest of the noon will be free to contact the local people or visit the small school were we can exchange some Spanish and English lessons. Dinner accompanied by camp fire and under the amazing Milky Way (stars) and stay in camp (B - L - D).

DAY 8: HUAMBO - SORO VALLEY - COLCA CANYON - LLAHUAR LODGE

7AM will be our country breakfast with first sunshine and nice morning in the mountains, after we drive up to another highest pass between Chinini and Cabanaconde town. From the top of the mountain will be the largest downhill switchback road from the top (4200M) to the bottom of the canyon takes 3 hours of adventure and fun time on two wheels to deepest section of canyon with stops for amazing photos along the way down. After 3 hours arrive to Colca River (2000M), at the section of Pacjia valley and end of mountain bike downhill for this day, form here we hike for about 1hr surrouding by nature in the deep of the canyon until to find our place for tonight as known as "Llahuar Lodge".
Free afternoon to enjoy the thermals baths located next of the encounter of Llatica and Colca Rivers, with amazing sceneries of huges granite walls.
Nice evening under starry sky and sleep in small bamboo cabins running by local family (B - L - D).

DAY 9: COLCA CANYON - MIRADOR CRUZ DEL CONDOR - BIKING ALONG THE COLCA VALLEY - CHIVAY

6AM will be begin our short hike to find our supporting vehicle and 2hrs drive up to leave from the canyon until Mirador Cruz Del Condor - Today breakfast will be served in a small restaurant located next of the viewpoint, and over huge precipice.
9:30AM short walk around "Mirador Cruz Del Condor (3600M)" to find more views and looking for amazing spots of condors flying around.
Today we will ride on gravel and asphalt road on the right bank of the canyon, through the remote villages (Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque), and the local attractions. Late afternoon visit the hot spring to realx muscles.
7:30PM visit the Maria Reiche Planetarium, we invite you to immerse in the mysteries of the Colca Valley sky and enjoy the performance "Colca deep Canyon, deep sky". You can learn how the ancient inhabitants of the Andes interpreted the night sky according to their myths and beliefs. The performances include projecting constellations in the Planetarium dome as well as observing the stars of Colca`s sky through a professional telescope.This evening the dinner will be optional.

DAY 10: CHIVAY - PAMPA CAÑAHUAS - PUNO

At 7 morning transfer to Patapampa (4850m), it is the highest pass between Colca canyon and Puno. Downhill and cross country ride over 4 thousand meters, on the way we stop at Toqra pampa lagoon to observe Andean birds and groups of Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas and a local museum running by local people. Cycle into the Aguada Blanca And Salinas reserve, is the natural home of the Vicuñas, considered protected animal. Transfer in our private vehicle to the stone forest, short hike around this scenery, Transfer to Lagunillas lagoon incredible place for picture companied with picnic (snack).
At 4pm arrival to Puno, located over 3800m near the shore of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. If there's time, we'll visit Sillustani, which was a sacred burial site of the pre-Inca Colla civilization. The Chullpas, or funeral towers, on the peninsula overlooking Lake Umayo create an other worldly setting, and we'll hike around this area. Transfer to Puno and stay at the selected hotel (B - S).

DAY 11: PUNO - LAKE TITICACA - UROS AND TAQULE ISLANDS

At 07:00 am you will be picked up from your hotel. Travel and after 2 hours by motor boat and then you will arrive at the Uros Island. Fishermen and hunters inhabit the floating islands of the Uros. The residents of the Uros use the cattail, a type of rush, which grows in the lake, to create the conditions that ensure the islands stay afloat. The dense roots that the plants develop support the island. The roofs are waterproof and the houses are extremely humid because of the surrounding water. At present they speak Quechua and Aymara. Then we will visit the Taquile Island, including lunch in the co-operative restaurant, there is also a co-operative shop on the plaza that sells exceptional woollen goods which are not cheap but of very fine quality. Taquile Island is famous for its craft production, particularly for its beautiful textiles. The island is narrow only about 1 KM wide, but 6 to 7 KM long, on Taquile there are numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins and Inca terracing. At 5pm return to Puno (B-L).

DAY 12: PUNO - PUKARA - LA RAYA PASS 4300M - HOT SPRING CAMPING

At 7am transfer to Pukara on our private 4x4 vehicle, Pukara is a handicraft village located over 3700m, from here we ride our bicycles on the even terrain, exploring the large group of Lamas and alpacas grazing, passing through remote and rarely visit village of farmers. We will cycle across the spectacular La Raya Pass (4300m), after photo stop on the top of the pass, we will enjoy a sweeping descent to the hot springs. Late lunch and camping near of the hotpring, on the bottom of Vilcanota range (3815m) (B-L-D).

DAY 13: HOT SPRING - SICUANI - URCOS - OCONGATE TOWN

Early morning optional enjoy the hot spring and them is downhill that follows the spectacular Vilcanota River, seeing small farms with colorful crops growing in harmonious patterns on the hillsides. Enter cycling to Sicuani valley and stop for lunch and visit Raqchi complex, denominate the Wiracocha temple, an impressive Inca ruins surrounding by pre Inca terraces and extinct volcano at the top of the mountains. Continue riding on right bank of the Vilcanota River and lake afternoon transfer by van to Ocongate village (4100m). Stay in a basic shared room (B-L-D).

DAY 14: OCONGATE - MAHUAYANI - HUALLA HUALLA PASS - MARCAPATA CLOUD FOREST

Starting early we drive to the top of spectacular Hualla Hualla pass (4950m). Thought the adventurous may decide to cycle up part of the way. Climbing up we see spectacular views of Mt Ausangate (6340m) and the glacier (Caravaya range) which is the focus of the Qoylluriti festival where thousands of pilgrims flock each year to pay homage to the "Apu" or spiritual mountain, and pass grazing flocks of Alpacas watched by shepherds in traditional Andean dress. Once over the pass the eastern side of the Andes fills the view. Deep glacial valleys strewn with giant boulders and remote hamlets surround us we start to descend. There are many opportunities here to take exciting off road shortcuts and further down the mountainsides are covered in steep terraces before the high scrubland gives way to cloud forest. We finish the day at Marcapata (2900m), a mysterious town cloaked in cloud by afternoon but offering spectacular views in the clear mornings. Hot springs wait to loosen your aching muscles, and a hearty meal to replenish your energy levels (B-S-D).

DAY 15: MARCAPATA CLOUD FOREST - QUNCEMIL JUNGLE

After an energizing breakfast in Marcapata and a quick look around the town we start our rapid descent through the cloud forest. Dramatic green mountain sides meet in the valley bottoms where streams turn into rivers and waterfalls run like ribbons down the slopes. Coffee beans can be seen drying next to the road, while early morning fresh forest smell and fantastic views make this a beautiful downhill ride. As our road winds down the cloud forest flattens out and we enter the jungle. The second half of this day is spent fording streams and cycling on more of an even road. Giant ferns and cliffs hug the roadside and hundreds of butterflies flutter around you. We finish the day at Quincemil (755m), a small gold mining community (B - L - D).

DAY 16: QUNCEMIL JUNGLE - MASUCO MINING TOWN - PUERTO MALDONADO

Leaving bright and early to make the most of the cool morning we follow on the left bank of the river out of town and spend the first three hours alternating between fairly steep up and downhill sections. The road is fairly smooth on this day offering some lovely descents and some interesting stream and small river crossings which is a lovely way to cool off in the heat of the day! We pass through several small jungle villages including San Lorenzo and Inambari, constructed out of wood and raised off the ground to avoid the flooding in the rainy season. Though we obviously cannot promise wild life the sorts of animals that can be seen include Squirrel monkeys, Macaws, Wild boar, Orapendulas, Parrots, snakes and Vultures. Toward the end of the day the road flattens out and we finish at Masuco town and lake afternoon transfer by van to Puerto Maldonado, stay at the selected hotel (B-L).

DAY 17: PUERTO MALDONADO - TAMBOPATA RESERVE - BOAT TRIP - CLOUDS OF BUTTERFLIES

"Sunset Point". Once back at the lodge, board a canoe for a short night trip to spot caimans on the riverbanks. After dinner at the lodge, the resident naturalists will brief you on the Amazon (B-L-D).

DAY 18: JUNGLE TRIP - TAMBOPATA - MACAWS CLAYLICK - WILDLIFE WATCHING

Early morning travel by canoe on the Tambopata river to Bahuaja Sonene national reserve, just in time to see the amazing sunrise, also to see many types of wildlife watching like Deer, Capibaras, Tapir in the deep rainforest. After short trip we will be in the best location to appreciate hundreds of Parakeets, Parrots and Macaws clay, around the springs enjoying their daily diet of salts on the banks of the river. Short trek looking for wildlife animals. Return to the lodge to have our breakfast. After lunch will enter walking to observe wildlife, like peccaries, deer, and others, with the possibility to hear or see the tracks of them, or discovering a troop of monkeys traveling through the forest in search of food. Time permitting, we will be able to enjoy a relaxing swim in the cascade of the cat. After dinner relax in our lodge surrounded by exotic nocturnal jungle sounds (B-L-D).

DAY 19: TAMBOPATA RESERVE - PUERTO MALDONADO - CUSCO

Early breakfast at lodge and transfer by boat to the airport of Puerto Maldonado and then flight to Cusco. Leisure afternoon for personal activities. Stay at the selected hotel (B).

DAY 20: CUSCO LEISURE DAY

DAY 21: CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS - ABRA MALAGA - SANTA MARIA JUNGLE

We will leave from Cusco at 7am in our private 4x4 vehicle, drive into sacred valley of the Incas, through Chincheros, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo until we reach Abra Malaga (4350m). From there we will begin our bicycle tour to Santa Maria (downhill and cross country). In this experience we will see archaeological centers like Huamanmarca and Inca jail, and an incredible landscape. We will be able to appreciate birds of the tropics, as well as medicinal plants in the cloud forest. This trip also takes us past many exotic fruits plantation such as mango, pineapple, papaya, avocado, coffee, and coca plants. We can take samples and enjoy the different flavors of the region. We can also observe the coca and coffee plantations and see local families in their daily routine. We will have diner in Santa Maria town nearby river. Stay in tents or basic familiar accommodation (B-L-D).

DAY 22: SANTA MARIA JUNGLE - SANTA TERESA HOT SPRING

At 6am breakfast and then trekking along the banks of the Vilcanota River about 2 kms. From San Pablo we will go up to Inca jail where we will see waterfalls, and archaeological centers of the Inca time.
Plenty time to relax in the thermal baths, observation of the wildlife of this region. Have lunch at Inca jail. After 6 hours of trekking camp nearby of Santa Teresa town (B-L-D).

DAY 23: SANTA TERESA HOT SPRING - PUTUCUSI MOUNTAIN - AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN

At 6am wake up and packing allour camping gear and the aboard a private van to drop us to the check point of Machu Picchu Sanctury. Today is one of the best opportunities for bird watching along this day, the most common bird in this area is the cock of rock (Peruvian national bird).
We hike 4 hours to Aguas Calientes to have lunch and free time for rest or visit the thermal pools located next of the town.
OPTIONAL climb to Putucusi viewpoint, located at the top of this mountain, nice award of Machu Picchu on the other side of the Urubamba River. Stay at the selected hotel in Aguas Calientes, optional visit the hot sprig next to this town (B-L-D).

DAY 24: MACHUPICHU SANCTUARY - CUSCO

Early morning breakfast at the hotel and trekking up to Machu Picchu before the sunrise come up. To be the first people in the citadel is one of the best options on all day.
Completely guide tour to Inca remain, free time to explore independently this Inca sacred city, if the time permitting climb to Wayna Picchu, the climb takes one and half hour. At 2pm is time to descend by bus to Aguas Calientes. Train back to Cusco. Stay at the selected hotel in Cusco (B-S).

DAY 25: CUSCO - LIMA

Morning transfer to the airport and flight back to Lima and then wait till your flight back home.

ADVICE FOR RIDERS

Riders need use to be riding long distance per day (100 - 150km). Good quality winter clothes, such as rain jacket, rain pants, windproof gloves, etc. Require good physical conditions (fit), experience and knowledge about mountain bike mechanism, will help the entire group to get good trip.

A payment of 50% deposit of the total amount must be paid to us at booking time. The balance is to be paid in full on your arrival date or just before to begin the tour (meeting day). If we receive your booking for less than 10 days prior to the tour start date, might we will ask for payment to be made in full once you confirm the tour, ask for this before you book the tour.

5. Final Payment & Enjoy your tour
The final payment can be paid in different ways according each tour booked. One way when we meet you at the airport of Lima after your arrive to Peru. Other way is when we meet at your hotel one day before to start the service/tour, we use this method especially for people booking some hiking and climbing tours because we need to check the equipments as tents, ice axe, sleeping bags, etc. Normally the meeting time happens one day before depart between 6 to 8pm at the lobby of your hotel or in our local offices in Cusco or Arequipa.
The final way is contacting the travelers just few minutes before to begin the service/trip; this can be at the hotel, airport, bus station or in our local offices.
After you confirm the booking form and the first deposit we will e-mail you mentioned how which option we will chose to arrange the final balance of the trip.
NOTE: Some tours can be booked directly in our local offices in Cusco or Arequipa. If there is availability for the requested tour will be a pleasure to fit you on the tour and you can pay the full amount in US dollars cash or local currency (soles). We will help you, we will fit you on the tour ONLY if we have place. Of course we DON'T guarantee any last moment departs.
