CLIMBING TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: PUNO - CHACHANI BASE CAMP (5300M)

Today we offer two alternative for the transfr from Puno to Chachani Mount.
BACKPACKER SERVICE: At 6AM includes pick up from your hotel in Puno and transfer to the bus stop and then around 4 hours of bus journey on the Altiplano of Puno and Arequipa until the metting point as known as Pampas Cañahuas (4200m) - This service don't includes any stop during the transfer - At this point there is policy station where all transports stop for usual control/check - There another driver and the mountain guide will be waiting for you to continue the guided trip to Chachani Mount driving on dirt road up to 5000m and from there 3 hours of up hill hike following narrow path to the base camp (5400m).
PRIVATE SERVICE: Of course this is the best option for everyone wanting to find the easy way to Chachani Mount - At 7AM the driver and the tour guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and start the journey altogether - The private service includes some stops along the route to enjoy more the highlands of Puno and Arequipa - The stops includes to see the nice viewpoint of Lagunillas, stop to use toilet, stop to see and walk around the rock forest of Puruña, the national reserve of Salinas And Aguada Blanca - Finally arrive to Pampas Cañahuas policy station and from there off-road trip to Chachani Mountain.
BACKPACKER & PRIVATE SERVICE: After nice but hard climb to the base camp you will have late lunch and free time to rest or short climb to try to get more acclimatization and return to the base for diner and rest(L - D).

DAY 2: CHACHANI SUMMIT (6070M) - AREQUIPA

BACKPACKER & PRIVATE SERVICE: At 2AM or 4AM wake-up time depending on how is the weather and after a hot energetic breakfast we start to attack the summit. If Chachani is completely covered by the snow, we take all our necessary climbing equipment such as crampons, ice axe and rope. From the base camp to Chachani summit (6070m) takes between 4 - 6 hours doing slow steps and battling with the altitude, the climb follow single track through el Angel, Fatima a finally Chachani slopes. This climb doesn’t demand a technical rock or ice wall climb, the climbing gear will be for security only, you don't need real climbing experience because Chachani is just trekking in high altitude.
After reaching the top, there we stay for a nice time getting spectacular views of the landscapes of Coropuna, Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Misti, Ubinas, the city of Arequipa and other landscapes.
After the stay at the top of Chachani, we go back down approximately 2 or 3 hours to our base camp, downhill depend how strong you will feeling after reach the summit. Lunch at the base camp and after packing all the camping equipment 15 minutes of descend to our private 4x4 vehicle and transfer to your hotel in Arequipa. Normally the tour ends in Arequipa around 4pm.
OPTIONAL: Private transfer from Chachani to the Colca canyon (Chivay 3600m). This service is under request only with additional payment of $180 USD for transpor for 6 people capacity. If enquiry this service let know us at booking time.

RAIN SEASON

November to April, some high passes are covered with snow. This tour leave every day even the rain season.

BEST TIME FOR TO CLIMB THE CHACHNI MOUNT

After rain season (April to June) the mountains are completely covered with snow and the slops are cover with new vegetation and wildlife amazing and spectacular views for photos lovers.

ADVICE FOR TRAVELERS

On the rain season take you rain gear and some medicines for altitude, some of this medication are Coramina or Soroche pills both can be buy in the local pharmacies.
Take swimsuit to enjoy thermal baths on the first day (Chivay or Yanque). We strongly recommend to choose Yanque for spend the night at this quiet town.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING/CARRY TO CLIMB CHACHANI MOUNT?

  4. One complete change of clothing
  5. Water bottle during the travel between Puno and Colca valley
  6. Hat or cap to protect you from the sun

  9. Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
  10. Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc
  11. Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries

According the program you don´t will back to Puno, which means to bring all stuff with you.
PORTER SERVICE will cost $95 USD per day, to carry your personal items. You will need to carry with you a daypack with your Camera, bottle of water, snacks, a fleece or something warm and a poncho in case of rain (unlikely in Dry season but as a precaution) and anything you will need before lunch as porters do not walk alongside you. Your bag will be waiting for you in your tent at campsites. Please note there are fines if you give an excess of 18 kgs so try to underpack rather than overpack. You can hire a porter from Arequipa to carry your pack over the base camp.
