Bike Itinerary From Puno To Cusco

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Puno - Lampa Pink Town – Llanquerani Puyas Forest - Cañon Tinajani – La Raya Pass – Langui Layo Lagoon – Mountain lodge.

At 7AM pick-up from hotel in Puno and then 3hrs of car journey passing Juliaca city, and then up through the Andean countryside until the nicer little town as known as Lampa (3870M), as known as the Pink City of Peru. Mostly of all colonial are made carved ashlar. In 1972 this Andean city were declared Historical Monuments of Peru. We invite to walk through its streets and see the pink town with nice and amazing church of Santiago Apostle, decorated with many works of arte of the Cusco artist school.

Inside the church is located the replica of “La Piedad” made in aluminum by the Italian artis Miguel Angel Bounaroti.

So, a stop in Lampa will be enjoying unusual temple in middle of pink tow, unique in Peru.

Continue along the upper valley of Lampa, we will reach the highest pass of Llanquerani (4600M). Here we begin the MT bike adventure, with great views of surrounding mountains and Andean valleys. The gravel road is perfect to begin downhill bike adventure to the biggest forest of Puya de Raimondi or as known if local language as Qayara or Titanka (Bromeliad family). This type flora is unique of the Andes of Peru and Bolivia. Luckily, we will find one of them with the inflorescence, producing clusters of up to 8,000 flowers and 6 million seeds per plant (April - Dec). It can live for more than 100 years. It is a monocarpic species, meaning it dies as soon as it flowers, with seeds being its only means of propagation.

This first section of biking distance will be around 30KM including the visit of Cañon de Tinajani (3980M). This natural wonder offers great route for walking or biking to discover different rock formations along the canyon, decorated with Llamas, Alpacas and luckily some Vicuñas. The geological history says, this canyon was covered by massive quantity of waters, which is today the Titicaca Lake.

Around midday we will arrive to local restaurant of Ayaviri to taste the local cuisine.

1 hour more driving along the Altiplano of Puno, we will arrive to La Raya pass (4340M), this is the border line between Puno and Cusco region. Short stop to see part of Vilcanota mountain range.

The next stop will at Mirador Apacheta (4520M), this is the second highest pass of today, between Cordillera Vilcanota and Langui lagoon. Here we start the 2nd section for MT bike (16KM) following a great gravel road, with amazing view of the Andean valley of Hanocca, until the town of Layo.

Today our lodge is located next of Langui lagoon and the rainbow mountain of Pallaypuncho.

Day 2: Pallaypuncho Rainbow Mountain (4750M) – Langui Lagoon – Yanaoca – Raqchi Archaeological Site - Raqchi Homestay.

Today before breakfast time we will drive for about 30min from the lodge up to trailhead of Pallaypuncho mountain. Short uphill hike for about 40Min to find the best viewpoints and get great photos of this natural wonders as known as Pallaypuncho. This awesome place offers amazing panorama with background of Langui lagoon, with colorful mountain viewpoints surrounding by red valley and blue waters of Langui Layo.

After 2hrs of enjoy of Pallaypuncho, we will take our bikes and downhill MT bike to the lodge, to have breakfast. The 2nd option for cycling will be along the Langui Layo lagoon (28KM), the road in good conditions passing many agriculture fields of Quinoa, potatoes, and other Andean crows produced by ancestral techniques.

The 3rd section for today biking (18KM), will be from Laguna Mataracocha (4230M) downhill to Raqchi community. This last section of biking offers some single-tracks passing tons of agriculture fields along way down until the southern valley of the Inca empire.

Around 3PM arrive to Raqchi, here we will find a local family, here will spend the night with them. Late afternoon optional visit the Wiracocha temple as known as Rarchi Inca site.

This evening we will share the table for dinner with nice and charming family.

Day 3:Raqchi – Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain – Cusco.

Today the country breakfast will be at 6AM served by local family.

Firstly, we will travel for about 2hrs through the mountainous range up to 44870M of altitude will be the end of the road. Here we will find the several colorful hills as known as Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain.

Short hike around and through 7 different viewpoints to observe another great natural wonder in the middle of Vilcanota mountain range. Next to colorful hills is locate a nice rock forest at the top, we advise to get the top and get complete amazing panorama of surrounding mountains contrasting many natural colors between the green valleys and the blue sky.

Around 10:30AM begin of the last section of MT bike (27KM) through colorful mountains Andean villages decorated by groups of Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas and Andean birds. The gravel road is great to ride bicycles, and some section is possible to find some single-tracks passing farming fields down to low valley of Colqatuna (3500M).

Somewhere along the valley we will find a place to have lunch (excluded), and then 2hrs of drive to Cusco. Drop-off at the door of your hotel and end of service.
