Colca canyon is the second deepest canyon in our planet, double deep Grand Canyon of United States. Is located in the middle of two highest volcanoes as Coropuna (6450M) and Ampato (6380M), this canyon is most famous place to visit by the tourist from every where in world, wonderful area to see the rich cultural remains, comes from 1400 years ago, immense varieties of flora and fauna, snow ranges, green valleys, old and colony town, mighty rivers crossing the Andes, thousand of pre Inca terraces, friendly and charm settlers live in this part of Peru. Here is our field work arranging everything what we mentioned before, we are happy showing to the visitors every place and old costumes lazy by our old cultures. We have traditional tours and new alternatives to explorer an extra mile in this great canyon.

Day by Day Itinerary

DAY 1: AREQUIPA - CONDOR CROSS LOOKOUT - SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO

At 3AM (Group/Semi-Private Service) or at 6AM (Private Service only) you will be pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa, orientation about the trek and journey of 6 hours to Colca Canyon (Cabanaconde 3280M) - The journey includes some stops to use the toilet and to have breakfast included in Chivay (3600M) around 7AM - Chivay is the main town in all Colca canyon and the check point to pay entrance to visit this wonderful zone of the Andes of Arequipa.

Then we continue our journey by car on the left bank of Colca valley seeing lots Pre-Incan terraces, small colonial towns and impressive mountain views around - Taking group & Semi-Private Service we don't stop much until "Mirador Cruz Del Condor" - Normally we arrive at this view point around 9AM for very short stop and then keep going for about 20 minutes more to the trailhead as known as "Pampa San Miguel 3300M".

Around 10AM you will start your trekking in the Colca canyon descending 4 hours to the Colca River (2016M) - The difference of desnivle will be 1200 meters following very steep path through wild scenery - We will cross to the other side of the canyon by hanging bridge, short break to enjoy the relaxing sound of water and wind of the Colca canyon - Than 30 minutes more og uphill trekking to reach the family lodge to get late lunch (included) in the valley of San Juan De Chuccho 2450M - The local family is going to supply cabins with big windows facing the mountain walls and the river - The cabins are with shared or private bath according your booking - OPTIONAL late afternoon uphill trekking up to Maucallaqta ruins located on the head of the valley - The diner will be served around 7PM and end of today trekking activity (B - L - D).

IMPORTANT: Booking the GROUP SERVICE you need to bring warm clothes as heavy fleece or windproof jacket. The public bus service doesn’t provide calefaction or air conditioning during this journey.

DAY 2: SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO - OASIS OR SANGALLE

At 7AM you will have a country breakfast supply by the family and begin uphill trekking for about 1 hours through agriculture terraces (fruit trees as avocado, peach, lemon, orange, fig, prickly pear, otters) - This nice trekking includes to pass the remote village of San Juan De Chuccho and continue to next village of Cosñirhua and Malata (2600m) its church of mixed racial ancestry, sights of the local landscape, very old terraces, snow-capped summits, varieties of flora and fauna.

At 1PM descend again to Colca River and cross another suspension bridge to get other valley as known as Sangalle or Oasis (2100M) - The lunch will be under fruit trees and next of swimming pool - Free afternoon to enjoy the pool (22°C) or OPTIONAL trek around the valley to see small cascade or try to fish some river trout - Here the cabins are located surrounded by lot green areas - For hikers booking Group Service they will get dormitories without bath - The rooms with private bath are available only for hikers booking Semi & Private Service.

At 6PM will be the diner and rest in the deep of the canyon under starry sky (B - L - D).

DAY 3: CABANACONDE - CHIVAY - AREQUIPA

Today you have to wake up as early as possible (8AM or 5AM) begin the trekking to get out from the canyon - This trekking takes 3 hours of pure uphill on the left rim of Colca Canyon - The summit of the canyon includes spectacular views of the river and valley of Cabanaconde (3280M) - The uphill trekking is considered as hard level because you will walk up about 1200m of desnivel on steep and hard terrain - OPTIONAL will be to hire a horse to ride this last section of the trekking (Group Service).

Around 8AM or 9AM will be huge breakfast included n town of Cabanaconde and then 20 minutes of transfer by shared transport or private transport to the Condor's Cross lookout, viewing many small towns along the Colca Valley - Today will be a second stop in Mirador Cruz Del Condor not more than 30 minutes but this depends of the time and the group. Around 11:30AM we arrive to the thermal pools of La Calera (42°C) and OPTIONAL (Group & Semi-Private Service) visit and enjoy the pools for about one hour - Thermal swimming pools are located in Chivay and have available toilet and hot shower included in the admission cost ($5 USD per person).

Around 12:40 PM return to Chivay to have lunch until 2PM and then 4 hours of transfer to your hotel in Arequipa and end of service - For hikers thinking to continue with their travel to Puno or who wants to stay near the airport of Arequipa they need tell us at booking time to coordinate with the trek guide and driver (B).
