PERU ADVENTURE TOURS offer this hike for hikers lovers who don't have enough time to visit the Colca or Cotahuasi Canyon. This half day hiking begins from our head office in Arequipa at 8AM or 12M (Calle Rivero 509 - Donwtown) or from customer hotel (Private Service only). Firstly we drive to get out of city to the southeast of volcan Misti. Along the way we will make few stops to have best view of west face of Misti volcano (5825M), the second stop will be at the little and colonial village of Chiguata (3100M), located between El Misti and Picchu Picchu mountain (5664M).
Around 9:30AM we will arrive to the trailhead, on the upper zone of Cachamarca/Chiguata valley (3540M). The hike begins with amazing view of southern views of volcan Misti and a green canyon flanked by Pichu Pichu mountain. The first section of the hike will downhill following a nice trail used by local people to get their agriculture fields.
Along the way down to the low section of the canyon we will appreciate varied vegetation, protected wildlife and domestic countryside animals of the region.
The distance for hiking vary between 8KM and 12KM, and the final decision can be made according the hiking level of all participants (Group Service).
The second section of this hiking will be crosscountry style through amphytheater of ancient terraces with background view of Misti from every corner along the route. More on the south will be more amazing views of extinct volcano as known as Pichu Pichu.
After 3hrs of hiking we will arrive to village of Chiguata (2970M), short rest and then we will have 1hr of transfer to our office in Arequipa and end of service.
BEST TIME FOR HIKING ACROSS VOLCANIC RANGE
This hike is suitable for everyone, the trail will be mostly flat and downhill along the valley of agriculture terraces.
The best season for hiking along the valley of Chiguata is between April to December, but during the rainy season (Jan-March) also is possible to enjoy this hiking but between 7AM to midday to avoid afternoon rain.
