Hike Through Andean Volcanic Lava Canyon
Capua waterfall is a discovering trail in 2003 by PERU ADVENTURE TOURS. This trek combines view of the countryside and volcanic land in Arequipa - Capua waterfall is located in the district Yura on the north side of Chachani Mountain (6070M) and it was originated into a narrow lava canyon of 160M high - The huge lava walls and rocky canyon offer very nice scenery for hiker lovers - This short hike is suitable for everyone wanting to explore the Arequipa countryside on foot and enjoy the quiet atmosphery.
CAPUA WATERFALL TREK ITINERARY
At 8AM pickup from the hotel (Group Service only) and 1h30m of transfer by public transport to trailhead named valle de Yura (2518M) - The begin of the trek is uphill through small hills formed by lava of Chachani volcano, crossing arid landscape with rare cactus and small bushes along the way, small dry canyons, and volcanic rocky valley. After 2 hours of trekking enter to the Capua valley, nice valley with all terraces working by locals, from here we continue following the river to get the main gate of lava, will be in the beginning of the canyon - Enter to the canyon and continue hiking along the river to the deep point where is the waterfall, the fall is 100M of crystalline water - Picnic next of the waterfall and if you like to get a cold shower you will have half hour for refreshing and then come back to get out from the lava canyon hike downhill the valley taking another trail into the Capua canyon - After 2 hours hike come back to Yura valley, if time permitting you can enjoy the hot spring (entrance excluded) - Around 1PM aboard the public transport or private car and transfer to Arequipa and drop-off at your hotel in Arequipa and end of the service - The entire services takes around 7hrs.
