9 Hrs Of Panoramic Trekking Of Pichu Pichu Mountain And Countryside Villages of Arequipa
Arequipa Day Trek is one most sightseeing alternative to explore the surrounding panorama out of the second largest city in Peru - The trek involves amazing views of Pichu Pichu Mountain (5640M), tree line as known as Bosque de Queñuales (Polylepis tree), share your time hiking between andean camelids as Llamas and Alpacas grazing around, remote countryside villages and of course epic view of volcan Misti (5825M) - This day trekking outside of Arequipa is suitable for all ages and the distances to hike can vary according the physical condition of each participant.
TECNICAL INFORMATION
DEPARTURE: Every day at 8AM from our office of Arequipa.
RETURN: Same day around 5PM and drop-off at our office in Arequipa.
SEASON: All year around.
DISTANCE: 22KM approximately but can be made longer or shorter (13,670miles).
TREK LENGTH: 9 hours approximately.
TREK HIGHLIGHT: Snow-peaks, andean flora and fauna, lagoon, pre-Inca terracing, nature and colonial buildings.
DIFFICULTY: Easy to medium level.
MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: Between 3,450M and 2,517M (11,318,90ft and 8,257.85ft).
TREK ITINERARY
For Group Service the service begins from our office in Arequipa – For PRIVATE SERVICE begins from customers accommodation located in downtown only. Firstly you will be transferred from the city to the bottom of Pichu Pichu Mountain – This short journey takes around 1H30M with scenic stops of volcan Misti, the ancient agriculture terraces along the way and visit the colonial church of Chiguata (3000M) – This Andean town was founded by the Spanish Diego Hernandez in January 22nd, 1540, before the Arequipa’s foundation – The name of this little town comes from to ancient Quechua words “Chiri” and “Huata” and the meaning in English is “Cold year” – The names comes thanks to morning and evening windy during all year – Chiguata people are very dedicated to agriculture thanks to rich soil surrounded by active volcanoes. The trip continue with few stops to the bottom of Pichu Picchu, the drive includes to pass other little villages as known as Mosopuquio (3300M).
The hike start about 3400M view amazing view of 7 peaks of Pichu Pichu Mountain (5640M) and large forest of Queñuales (Andean trees), and view of the guardian of Arequipa as known as Volcan Misti (5820M) – The path for our hike is in good condition between lots agriculture terraces of Tuctunpalla and Piaca villages – The agriculture fields look green all year thanks to pristine water of many spring at the bottom of Pichu Pichu. The first section for trekking will be from the bottom of Pichu Pichu to Piaca villages (12KM) where we will offer nice picnic for all participants to recover energy for the second section of the trek.
Around 1PM we start the second part of the trek into an arid canyon from Posci town (3096M) to high zone of Mollebaya canyon (2650M) – This hike includes small path following a dry canyon, small forest of cactus, and luckily we will watch the flight of Andean Condor, some other wildlife as Viscachas, Andean Eagle, Andean woodpeckers, foxes, parrots, and others. Finally the trek end around 4PM and we take our transport for transfer to our office and end of service.
