TORO MUERTO TOUR ITINERARY
At 7AM we leave from Arequipa in our private tourist van. after 3 hours travel to west an asphalted road running through the impressive desert zone giving a view of Arequipa's surrounding volcanoes: El Misti, El Chachani, El Ampato and Coropuna - After 170KM we will arrive to the valley of Corire - Majes valley (600M), nice drive along fertile valley of rice and then we take a dirt road on the slopes of arid hills on the left side of Majes River where is located the petroglyphs of Toromuerto - Before begin hike through a volcanic rock zone over approximately 5KM2 area we advise to bring water, and hat to protect you from the sun (32°C) - The visit begins seeing a probably remains of violent eruptions of the surrounding volcanoes as known as Coropuna and Chachani - The area consist of carved rocks strewn over hot desert and there are more than a thousand rocks of all sizes, shapes have been crudely, yet strikingly, engraved with a wide variety of distinct representations - No archaeological remains have been directly associated with these pictures they date from between 1000 and 1500 years ago, largely attributed to the Wari culture, though with probable additions during subsequent Chuquibambas and Inca periods of domination in the region - The engravings include images of humans, aliens, snakes, llamas, deer, parrots, sun discs and simple and very rare geometric motifs. Some of the figures appear to be dancing; others look like spacemen with large round helmets - obvious potential for the author Eric Von Daniken extraterrestrial musings - To explore this arid area takes around 2 hours but everything depends how active is each participants because to find all figures takes more than a day hiking.
Around 1PM we drive down to Corire to have lunch (Private Service only) and then we continue along thevalley to find some remaining tombs of ancient civilizations (1500 year old) - The trip also includes a short hike and visit the tracks of the Dinosaurs (plintosaurio, diplodocus and giganotosaurus ), located between Corire and Aplao (700M), the place offer great views of the valley and geological faults around - The Dinosaurs petrified tracks on the hills are proofs with 150 million years ago antique and great begin to learn about these pre-historic animals were living in the zone before earth suffer huge surface changes.
Around 4PM we drive for about 3 hours to Arequipa and drop-off at your hotel in downtown and end of service.
GROUP SERVICE: This service include to join regular public bus service and maybe will be no enough time to explore all places mentioned in the itinerary or the return to Arequipa could be later than you will were expecting - Sorry, if at the end you are not happy with bus service or timing.
