EL MISTI VOLCANO AND CHACHANI SNOW-MOUNTAIN
Arequipa is ideally positioned fo a variety of ascents, many of them not technically challenging to volcano summits and mighty Andes peaks. Climbers in good physical condition can summits in ascents of 3 days, 2 days or less.
Climbers should be sufficiently acclimatized prior to making any ascents: if the climbers expend several days in Cusco or Puno before arriving in Arequipa should be fine. The best season for climbing is July through September.
El Misti, a nearby 5,850M (19,499ft) volcano, dominates the Arequipa landscape from distance of about 20KM (12 miles). El Misti Volcan is a demanding 1, 2 or 3 days high trek with few technical challenges. Arequipa's other volcano is Chachani (6,075M/20,200ft), just in the northwest of Misti volcano also presents an excellent and technically straightforward climb, a good opportunity for inexperienced climbers to brag about reaching the highest summit near of Arequipa.
