PERU BIKE TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO LIMA - WELCOME TO PERU

Reception at the airport of Lima and transfer to the selected hotel - Overnight.

DAY 2: LIMA - PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE

At 6am pick Up from your hotel travel to the Peninsula of Paracas in the department of Ica, located a distance of 239 kms/150 miles away from Lima, where we arrive by bus after 3 hours. At 10am.
"La Catedral", rock formation on the sea side, The Sea Lions lookout. After lunch, continue the bike tour on the surroundings experiencing biking on the desert dunes, Julio C. Tello Museum, Paracas bay. 5pm. Come back to Pisco city, Dinner and stay at the selected hotel (B).

DAY 3: ICA - OASIS LA HUACAHINA - NASCA

At 6am transfer to the port of El Chaco, located at 10 km away from Pisco, here you will board our boats and travel in the sea to know the natural beauty of these islands. This trip on boat take 3 hours, you will have chance to look Flamingos, Huanays, Piqueros, Humboldt penguins, Sea lions, Zarcillos and same times the Andean Condor.
Transfer to La Huacachina to have lunch there and Sand board tour around the oasis. Cycle on the south region of Ica (Rio Grande - Palpa - San Jose), where exist the lookout tower to appreciate the mysterious lines and figures. Arrival to Nasca and stay at the selected hoteL (B - L).

DAY 4: NASCA LINES - CHAUCHILLA CEMETERY - SACACO PALEONTOLOGY MUSEUM - CAMPING

At 7am transfer to the aerodrome Maria Reiche. Informative video about the Nasca civilization = 35 min. Fly over the Nasca lines (Cessna plane 3/5 people): The Nasca lines are located in the desert, a high arid plateau that stretches between the towns of Nasca and Palpa on the pampa (a large flat area of southern Peru). The Nasca lines are geoglyphs and geometric line clearings in the Peruvian desert. They were made by the Nasca people, who flourished between 200 BC and 600 AD along rivers and streams that flow from the Andes. The Nasca lines are an enigma. Since their discovery, the Nasca lines have inspired fantastic explanations from ancient gods, a landing strip for returning aliens, a celestial calendar created by the ancient civilization, used for rituals probably related to astronomy, or clans who made up the population and to determine through ritual their economic functions held up by reciprocity and redistribution, or a map of underground water supplies. Flying over the area you can marvel looking at the perfect shape of Animal's, flowers, plants, objects, and anthropomorphic figures of colossal proportions made with well-defined lines. Soon after the flight we continue our trip driving to the south of Nasca following the Pan Americana highway, 28km away is located the Chauchilla cemetery. We drive on the dirt road along the valley of Chauchilla, there we will find many tombs containing ancient pottery and humans remains of Nasca civilization.
Around 12pm we will start our bike tour along the Pan Americana highway to Sacaco Paleontology Park, located 100km on the south of Nasca, we enter to small valley on the left site of the way and there we will find abandoned oasis named Sacaco. Here we will set up the tents next of the museum, complete walking guided about this place where you will see fossilized remains of whales, shark and other animals lived in the primitive times were founded. Sacaco is considerate the first Paleontology deposit along the coast of Peru. Stay in tents (B - L - D).

DAY 5: SACACO - PUERTO INCA - CAMANA - AREQUIPA

After breakfasts soon transfer to Yauca Valley and from there we will ride our bike following the Pacific Ocean to Puerto Inca, Chala. We will cycle until lunch time (XC - DH) and then transfer to Arequipa, arriving to the hotel around 8pm (B - L)

DAY 6: AREQUIPA - DOWNHILL MISTI VOLCANO

Leisure morning for personal activities, we recommend visit the Santa Catalina monastery and "Juanita ice maiden" museum. At 1pm pick from the hotel in our private four wheel drive vehicle. Depart Arequipa going up to 3400m above sea level. The trip takes an hour and half by a dirt road to the base of the conical Misti volcano.
Up there we do a short trek on the slope of this active volcano. At 2:30pm is time to descend Misti downhill on our best-quality bikes, with a fun atmosphere, good tour guides, and good technical support with the jeeps nearby. We enjoy this spectacular ride all the way down to Arequipa, optional single tracks on the Misti slope. Riding our bikes we enter the city, to the hotel (B).

DAY 7: AREQUIPA - EL PEDREGAL - HUAMBO - SORO VALLEY - COLCA CANYON - LLAHUAR LODGE CAMPING

At 6am departure to the Colca canyon in our private 4WD, travel to see the rest of the north part of Desierto de Atacama and drive up to the highlands crossing the valley of Vitor, Alto Sihuas, El Pedregal - short explore the remains of Wary culture named Huacan - Visit the south part of the Volcanoes range named Pampa Qerqe - Ampato mountain viewpoint (4300m). From this high point (pass) cycle down on the dirt road or single tracks to enter to Huambo valley (3200m) this is nice downhill ride with spectacular view of the real Andes and Inca terraces on the slopes of the mountains.

Nice evening under starry sky and stay the night in bamboo cabins running by local family (B - L - D).

DAY 8: COLCA CANYON - CONDOR CROSS - CHIVAY

"Colca deep Canyon, deep sky". You can learn how the ancient inhabitants of the Andes interpreted the night sky according to their myths and beliefs. The performances include projecting constellations in the Planetarium dome as well as observing the stars of Colca Canyon sky through a professional telescope. Stay at the selected hotel (B - L).

DAY 9: CHIVAY - TUTI - SIBAYO - ESPINAR - EL DESCANSO - LANGUI LAGOON - ACOPIA LAGOON CAMPING

Today we wake up early and after breakfast son we departure (6am) in our 4x4 supporting vehicle up to the highest point on this tour (Taraque Pass 4800m). We drive on dirt road until El Descanso (4650m), from there we will ride our mountain bikes (XC) for two hours until Langui Lake, and this is nice scenic view of complete view of the lagoon located between two mountains. We will make picnic around the lagoon sharing some time with local Andean kids. After lunch we keep riding on the dirt road (XC) passing small remote villages along the route as Yanaoca (3900m). The last part of the road is mostly flat with spectacular view of agriculture fields and local people farming their animals. After 5 hours of riding we enter to "the circuit of the 4 lagoons", where we will arrive to another lagoon named Acopia (3900m). Camping next of the lagoon and for dinner could be fresh trout from this lagoon and accompanied by nice campfire under starry sky (B-S).

DAY 10: ACOPIA LAGOON - PUMACANCHIS LAGOON - CUSIPATA - URCOS - ANDAHUAYLILLAS - CUSCO

We recommend waking up early to appreciate nice sunrise over the Acopia lagoon. Country breakfast and cross country ride style following abandoned dirty road along the four lagoon circuit. After two hours riding we will find another bigger lagoon named Pumacanchis where local people practice trout farming as daily activities. You can cycle on the southeast bank of the lagoon passing local Andean typical houses, and spectacular view of Vilcanota range. Nice downhill ride style from Pumacanchis lagoon to the south valley of Cusco, nice downhill on serpentine road with spectacular view of the deep canyon irrigated by the Vilcanota River. After one hour of downhill biking arrive to the Cusipata for lunch. After we will keep riding on paved road until 3pm and then 2 hours of transfer to hotel in Cusco (B - L - D).

DAY 11: DAY 1: CUSCO - BIKE TOUR TO MORAY AND MARAS - AGUAS CALIENTES

At 7am we pick you up from the hotel and travel by own private vehicle to Chincheros, which takes 40 minutes. Here we begin our cross country biking tour on the nice Andean landscape. We visit Lake of Huaypo, Maras-Moray, Salt mining and finally enjoy doing downhill biking to Urubamba in the Sacred Valley. Maras is an Inca settlement, and is a place named Salineras, are extensive terracing salt areas, controlled, and used since before Inca days. This trip is for beginners, and experience bikers, you can choose to ride in asphalt road, dirt road and single trucks. Will be a nice experience mixing the sport and knowledge of the Inca culture. After 5 hours biking 35km (or more) stops at different viewpoints. The lunch will be in Ollantaytambo and then at 4pm we aboard the train to Aguas Calientes (2 hours of travel), welcoming reception and then transfer to the hotel in Aguas Calientes (B - L - D).

DAY 12: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

At 5am breakfast and half hour later aboard the first tourist bus to drop us to Machu Picchu main door, and to be the first visitors Inside Machu Picchu archaeological site you will have complete guided tour of this spectacular and mystical place. The guided tour include walk through the different section such as urban, agriculture, and the religions zone was used by the Inca Culture. According with the time and your feeling you can coordinating with the tour guide climb to Huayna Picchu (Young Mountain) this climbing take around 1 hour to get the summit from where you can have the best view for photos of all Machu Picchu and of deep green canyon surrounding the sacred Inca City. At according time descend to Machu Picchu and then free time to explorer on your own. At mentioned time aboard a tourist bus to descend to Aguas Calientes town. Lunch will be in town and then we will aboard the backpacker train to Ollantaytambo (sacred valley) and from here we take a private van to drop us to the hotel in Cusco (B - L).
Today we don't cycle.

DAY 13: CUSCO LEISURE DAY

Today will be leisure for personal activities in Cusco (B).

DAY 14: CUSCO - LIMA

At mentioned time pick up from hotel and transfer to airport and flight to Lima (B).

ADVICE FOR RIDERS

Riders need use to be riding long distance per day (100 - 150km). Good quality winter clothes, such as rain jacket, rain pants, windproof gloves, etc. Require good physical conditions (fit), experience and knowledge about mountain bike mechanism, will help the entire group to get good trip.
