This nice city is surrounded by 3 hughes volcanoes, one of then is well recognized as "Misti", from the city looks taller and easy to get the top than Chachani and Pichu Pichu... but is not true, why....?
On the backside of Misti and Pichu Pichu exist a well marketed lagoon as known as Laguna de Salinas (small salt flats), the place offer great mountain scenic and is located into the national reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas.

ITINERARY TO VISIT LAGUNA DE SALINAS AND VOLCAN MISTI

DAY 1: AREQUIPA - SALINAS SALT LAGOON - AGUADA BLANCA DAM - MISTI BASE CAMP (4700M)

Today at 7AM we will pick-up you from your hotel and aboard our private jeep to travel up to Andes. The adventure begins to drive on switchback dirt road towards Pichu Pichu Mountain, passing the farming village of Chiguata, with several stops for nice views of the south face of volcan Misti and the countryside of Arequipa.
Around 9:30AM we will arrive to the shores of Laguna De Salinas, between March and June this lagoon offer us a water mirror with amazing reflection of actives volcanoes arround and lot opportunity to photography the pink flamingos. Off-course there are more wildlife along the way as Vicuñas, Andean eagles and luckily somedays we can appreciate the flight of the Andean Condor crossing the blue sky.
At the lagoon we hike for about 1hr around to get better performance to altitude and discover nicer spots.
Fauna En Laguna De Salinas
From Laguna de Salinas (4300M) we drive 50KM for about 2hrs through high mountains and remote villages situated away from modernity (4750M). The dirt bumpy road will takes us to the base of volcan Misti, of the nirth face as known as Aguada Blanca.
At this point we will packing all our camping gear and personal things. Also here we will have lunch surrounding by amazing view.
On the way to Misti Base Camp
Around 1:30PM begins the challenge trekking for about 3hrs or 4hrs following a gradual and sandy path through rocky sections up to the base camp at 4760M as known as Monte Blanco - From this point you will get more panorama of surrounding mountains as Chachani, Picchu Picchu, Ubinas volcano and vast area of National Reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas - Around 5:30PM will be time to appreciate spectacular sunset over the mountains making unforgettable memories about this trip. Around 6:30PM we enjoy hot and tasty diner server by your tour guide/porter also you can get plenty hot drink as coca tea - The end of the day will be with a resting until next early morning (L-D).

DAY 2: BASE CAMP - ATTACK THE SUMMIT OF MISTI VOLCANO - AREQUIPA

At 2AM or 4AM wake-up time depending on how is the weather and after a hot energetic breakfast we start the climb to the summit. If Misti is completely covered with snow, we take all our necessary climbing equipment such as ice axe and crampons. From the base camp to Misti summit (5825M) takes between 4 - 5 hours of slow steps and battling with the altitude and following single serpentine trail. After reaching the top, there we stay for a nice time getting spectacular views of the landscapes of Chachani, Pichu Pichu, Coropuna, Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Misti, Ubinas, Salinas salt lake, Arequipa valley, etc. If the time permitting descend into the mayor crater from where is possible to see the activity of this volcano or short walk over the top around the biggest crater of this volcano.
After stay at the top of Misti, one hour of downhill to our base camp for lunch, packing all the camping equipment and continue descending to the private 4WD.
At 1PM come back to Arequipa and end of our trip (B-L).

PORTER SERVICE FOR GROUP AND SEMI-PRIVATE SERVICE

This cost $95 USD per day, to carry your personal items. You will need to carry a daypack with your Camera, bottle of water, snacks, a fleece or something warm and a poncho in case of rain (unlikely in Dry season but as a precaution) and anything you will need before lunch as porters do not walk alongside you. Your bag will be waiting for you in your tent at campsite (4700M). Please note there are fines if you give an excess of 18 kgs so try to underpack rather than overpack. You can hire a porter from Arequipa to carry your pack over the base camp.

IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU BOOK A TREK TO EL MISTI VOLCANO

PERU ADVENTURE TOURS as a certified tour operator never works as intermediaries or pass our customer to other local operator to develop this adventure - We sell our treks/tours/services and we develop them according our own logistics (transportation, guides, equipment's, camp staff and others) without compromise with other tour companies - We really recommend to take lot care before you book a cheap trek to Misti with other "tour company" because easily they can cancel the depart if they don't get more than 4 participants to make a group or they can change the date of your trek to join other later group or they will refund your money saying fake excuses to avoid any responsibility as intermediaries.

GROUP SERVICE $270 USD Per Person (Up to 4 people per each guide): This service requires 3 participants as minimum to be a group - If you come alone (solo) or your group is not more than 2 people we can accept your reservation but under condition to find more people until a day prior of your trip otherwise we will refund of your money by PayPal - Normally the group size vary between 4 and 8 participants for each two guides.
PRIVATE SERVICE $650 USD Per Person (Up to 4 people per each guide): This is fully supported service with private 4x4 transport at any time during the period of the trip - Full porter service to carry all camping/climbing gear, food and your personal items - This also includes a personal bottle of oxygen (1 Cubic Meter) to use during the night and the second day all the way up to the summit - We recommend to reserve this tour in advance to guarantee all services and of course this can be booked one day in advance but the service will be guarantee only if we have available transport/driver, tour guide and porters.

ALL THESE SERVICES NEEDS A DEPOSIT BY PAYPAL AS FIRST PAYMENT - THE FINAL BALANCE OF THE TRIP HAS TO BE PAID IN OUR LOCAL OFFICE OF AREQUIPA OR YOU CAN ARRANGE A SECOND PAYMENT A WEEK PRIOR YOUR TRIP - ALL LAST MOMENT BOOKINGS FOR THIS TREK NEED TO BE PAID IN CASH.

RAIN SEASON

Between December and March is heavy rain fater midday. Somedays could be blue sky with good conditions to climb, but before to book this adventure is better to check the weather forecast.

BEST TIME FOR CLIMB THE MISTI VOLCANO

From April to December, is considered dry season with sunny days and cold nights, windy afternoont. The best months to do this adventure is betwenn April-June and September-November because is less cold at night.

ADVICE FOR CLIMBERS - TREK DIFFICULT

To have good acclimatization, good physical conditions and good quality winter clothes. One day before all the climbers will have meeting with the mountain guide at our office or in the hotel, who will give a BRIEFING about this climb and also you can check the quality of the climb gear will be used on the mountain.

THE TREK TO VOLCAN MISTI IS ONE OF THE HARDEST TREK EVEN DURING THE WET AND DRY SEASON - THE WAY UP IS VERY SANDY AND STEEP MAKING HARDER, COLD, HOT, DUSTY, WINDY AND YOU WILL AWARDED WITH NICE VIEW AROUND - TO ALL CUSTOMERS WE RECOMMEND TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE TO GET THE SUMMIT OTHERWISE OUR CAMP STAFF COULD NOT HELP YOU.
