Colca is a canyon of the Colca River in southern Peru. It is located on the northwest of Arequipa. It is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States. GUIDED TOUR FROM PUNO COLCA CANYON AREQUIPA ITINERARY
At 2AM you will be picking up from the hotel and then private transfer from Puno to Colca canyon lead by English-Speaking tour guide. The early morning journey goes through Juliaca, Santa Lucia, Crucero Alto, Lagunillas and finally arrive to Pampa Cañahuas Natural reserve. Short break to use the toilets and then continue travel from 4200m up to 4850m named Patapampa.
Around 7AM downhill on paved road from highlands to Chivay valley - 3400m (Upper colca canyon).
From Chivay valley we will drive on gravel road (unpaved) on the left bank of the Colca River, passing small colonial town as Yanque, Maca, Pinchollo, many lookouts of the canyon and terraces on the left and right bank of the canyon.
At 9AM arrive to the Condor cross viewpoint, where you will see the majestic Andean king as know Condor (vulture gryphus). Nice view of the second deepest canyon in the world and great opportunity to get the best picture of this Andean geographic fall as know Colca canyon.
If time and weather permit is possible to do a short walk along the canyon, this walk take around 1 hour on mostly flat terrain.
Around 10AM is time to drive back to Chivay following a dusty road and stopping in different point to see the local people, the pre-Inca and agricultural terraces along the canyon.
At 12PM or 1PM arrive to Chivay and optional visit to the thermal bath located 5 minutes driving (hot spring), there many out/indoor pools to enjoy swimming in hot water.
At 2PM we will transfer you to local restaurant to enjoy a buffet lunch prepared with Andean ingredients. Then we will aboard our private transport to travel to Arequipa, this take not more than 4 hours.
Arrival to the hotel in Arequipa or to bus station or airport and end of the service.

November to April, some high passes are covered with snow making difficult to travel. This tour leave every day even the rain season.
BEST TIME FOR TRAVEL
After rain season (April to June) the mountains are completely covered with snow and the slops are cover with new vegetation and wildlife amazing and spectacular views for photos lovers.
ADVICE FOR TRAVEL
On the rain season take you rain gear and some medicines for altitude, some of this medication are Coramina or Soroche pills both can be buy in the local pharmacies.
Take swimsuit to enjoy thermal baths on the first day (Chivay or Yanque). We strongly recommend to choose Yanque for spend the night at this quiet town.
